Cute kittens, hallucinations and curfews endorsed by the mayor. Yes, there is still one grownup human in town (or actually two, if you count the sheriff).
1. What just happened?!
Loved this episode! There is so much good stuff happening. This week on The Vampire Diaries the hunt season has officially started. Vampire hunter Connor steals some werewolf venom from Tyler to spike the beer at Rebekah’s anti-curfew party and he tries to persuade Jeremy in joining the hunt party. In the meantime Damon tries to find out more about the new vampire hunter in town, but gets caught by a few explosive arrows. To proud to call his little brother we see doctor Fell appear again at Damon’s side. We also meet Tyler’s friend Hayley who helped him break the sire bond and Klaus returns with some hybrid bodyguards for Tyler (to save the hybrid species). The summer holiday ended as well in Mystic Falls and we see our gang trying to get back to school. Trying, because we mostly see them during breaks or skipping classes, but it’s a nice attempt to set a good example for the younger viewers.
2. What was the most memorable quote or dialog this episode?
Maybe we should change this question in “what was Damon’s best line this week?”. Well you probably already guessed: “Ok. It’s a kitten. It’s an adorable exploding kitten.” (in response to doctor Fell’s “tell me that is not a bomb”). Also worth mentioning are Caroline’s take on Stefan saving vampire lives: “You should write a book, go on ‘the view.'” and Klaus to Damon on the phone: “Tyler’s otherwise occupied making big decisions about honesty and what not.” (that accent!). Plus the one about the voicemail: “And for future reference, one voicemail is just as effective as 9.”
3. Cuteness vs. Useless
+ It was such a relief that Rebekah ripping Matt’s heart out was just a hallucination. I gasped when I saw it happening. The writers should never kill Matt! Also nice to see that Matt is actually the person that keeps Rebekah human (in a way).
+ Rebekah is so diabolical, but she is still likeable (she might be the female Damon!?). After getting werewolf blood in her system, I felt a bit sorry for her. I just hope she doesn’t take advantage of her new friendship with April.
+ Is Caroline developing feelings for Stefan? There was so much bonding between these two characters this episode. Will the writers really go down that path? It’s obvious that Forbwood (Caroline and Tyler) won’t be together for long now Hayley has entered the building.
+ Phoebe Tonkin back on The CW is always a plus! I’m still sad that The Secret Circle was canceled. Her character Faye was really interesting. Curious what she is going to bring on TVD as Hayley.
+ Glad that Damon is still looking out for Elena. Stefan’s way of dealing with her new life clearly doesn’t work, because he puts too much pressure on it.
+ Turns out that Klaus is still the biggest villian of them all by saving the vampire hunter. Very curious about all that “you’re one of the Five” stuff. Luckily we are going to have a flashback episode next week!
+ Nice music this week on TVD! Favorite: Ho Hey by The Lumineers.
– The motorcycle scene was just there to pass the time (fill it even?) and to have a reason to finally see Nina Dobrev smile this season. It could have been anything and that’s why I found it a bit boring. Also stunting with a motorcycle is very Twilight and TVD should never go there.
– Stefan is boring. It’s seems that Ripper Stefan was a way more interesting version of him than this holding back one.
4. Rate it! (on a scale from 0 to 10)
I’m going with an 8,5 this week. The Vampire Diaries keeps up it outstanding performance and is building up to a new killer episode.
