I just love flashbacks on The Vampire Diaries!
1. What just happened?!
Most of the time flashbacks are a bit boring on television, because they don’t add a lot to the story. Thankfully The Vampire Diaries has a great team of writers who are always able to make these flashbacks super interesting and something to look forward to. This time we went back in time with Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah who met one of the Five. Slowly we unravel the mystery of the Five. In the meantime Damon, Bonnie and Elena drive to a local college to meet a professor who worked with Bonnie’s grams. A frat Halloween party is the perfect time for Elena to get into hunting with the help of Damon. Also Jeremy gets kidnapped by Klaus to draw the tattoo Connor has on his arm (luckily Jeremy was an excellent drawer in a previous season). In the end Elena has a heart to heart with both of the Salvatore brothers, Connor escapes and runs straight towards the professor we just met and Klaus daggers Rebekah for the millionth time.
2. What was the most memorable quote or dialog this episode?
The whole dinner scene with Rebekah, Klaus and Stefan was so much fun to watch. The bickering between Rebekah and Klaus plus Stefan commenting was super funny. I also adore Claire and British accents. Here is the dialog:
Klaus: “Rebekah, love, eat your veggies.”
Rebekah: “I’m not eating till you apologize.”
Klaus: “For which indiscretion? There have been so many.”
Rebekah: “You broke my neck.”
Klaus: “You threw away Elena’s blood so I can’t make any more hybrids.”
Rebekah: “‘Cause you took me for granted!”
Klaus: “That’s what big brothers do, sweetheart!”
Stefan: “Let me just name the million other people I’d rather be having dinner with right now.”
Klaus: “All right, fine. I’m sorry. I often forget how delicate you are. Forgive me?”
Rebekah: “I’ll take it under consideration.”
3. Cuteness vs. Useless
+ Good job by the music department of TVD! We hear “Feel So Close (Benny Benassi Remix)” by Calvin Harris when Damon and Elena get closer at the Halloween party. If their body language wasn’t obvious enough the song made sure you couldn’t miss it.
+ The flashbacks about the Five. So much consistency in the characters and it’s always great to see Elijah.
+ Adoring Damon’s car! They always have such pretty (old) cars on television. Remember Peyton’s Comet on One Tree Hill?
+ Matt and Rebekah. I hope they get a real shot. Matt needs a love interest and Rebekah is right about having dibs! I rather see him with Rebekah then with April. The latter is just a little bit too depressed for him.
+ Damon, Elena and Bonnie picking Jack the Ripper and two of his victims as a Halloween costume.
+ Rebekah’s speech in the end about love. Although we all know Klaus secretly has feelings for Caroline.
+/- About the vampire cure. I have the feeling it’s not going to end well.
– Uhoh, the college professor seems like bad news… and even worse: of course Bonnie trusts him completely (why does she always have to walk straight into a trap?).
– Rebekah getting daggered by her brother again! I really like her character, so I’m sad she has to be in a coffin again for a few episodes. Maybe Matt can save her?
– Stefan working together again with Klaus, without telling anyone. Seems dangerous and we all know what happened last time…
4. Rate it! (on a scale from 0 to 10)
Another solid episode. Although I missed Caroline a bit this episode I was happy with the extra screen time for Rebekah. Lets make this week an 8.
