Modern Family 4×09: When a Tree Falls

To fall or not to fall, that is the question. At least it was in last week’s Modern Family.

1. What just happened?!
Remember that time Haley assaulted a police officer by accidentally falling on him? Yeah, she has to do community service for that. “A-ha!”, is what Alex must have thought. “Finally a chance on payback for the embarrassing facebook photo incident.” Go suit yourself Alex, just watch out for karma.

Cam hears that his family’s favorite park tree will be cut down. Even though he’s very busy with three things (including an understudy role in Cats and NOT drawer handles, that’s for sure!) he decides to take a stand. Good thinking Cam, they won’t cut down a tree with a person in it. But hey, where are you going there? Apparently he gets called that it’s finally his time to shine in his understudy role. Which leads to Mitchell understudying his role of tree saver.

Manny has to go to a sports themed birthday party and is not excited. Manny Delgado’s don’t do sports themed birthday parties, that’s what they’re Manny Delgado’s for. Jay convinces him to step out of his comfort zone, so Manny eventually does go. After arrival Jay does not feel uncomfortable with the other, younger, dads and wants to leave. “What’s the matter Jay, afraid to step out of your comfort zone?” (High five Manny!) Luke and Phil are there too, so Phil introduces him to the dads group. If only he had known that Jay would start ragging on him in front of his friends. Boxing match alert!

Gloria’s got a serious case of pregnancy brain, so (in Jay’s order) Claire takes her on a Costco run. Can’t blame Jay, that’s a serious case of forgetfulness! Until her water breaks…

2. What was the most memorable quote or dialog this episode?
Little Aubrey is quite adorable:
– Lily, while attempting to open her dresser drawer with a spatula: “I can’t live like this.”
– Lily: “Tell me about it…”

3. Cuteness vs. Useless
+ I’m glad Haley is back. Alex had less of a purpose without her sister there.
+/- For a second there I got very excited that the delivery had started.
+/- A lot of mediocre story lines this week. Cam in his awfully tight Cats costume did make up for it partially.

4. Rate it! (on a scale from 0 to 10)
It was entertaining, but Modern Family can do better: 7.

What do you think of this week’s episode?
