Welcome back, dear readers! It’s our first real week back in 2013. We hope you all had a lovely holiday just like us. The start of a new year is always promising… it means our beloved tv shows will return soon from their winter hiatus. Plus it’s the start of midseason, which means that our favorite summer shows return and the networks have a few new shows in store for us!
The new year also means the start of the awards season and the TCA’s. We won’t discuss every award per se (although it’s ridiculous that Ben Affleck didn’t get nominated for “Best Director” at the Oscars… the folks at the Golden Globes and Critic’s Choice Awards seem to agree with us) it inspired us to do our very own “Best of 2012” movie edition. You can read it below.
TCA’s and The Vampire Diaries spin-off
This was also the week of the TCA’s, which meant that our Twitter Timeline was packed with the lastest scoop on our favorite shows (one of the perks of following loads of tv journalists – it was like Christmas all over again). Most peculiar was the announcement of The Vampire Diaries spin-off, which will concentrate on original vampire/hybrid Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan) in contemporary New Orleans and will also star werewolf Hayley (played by Phoebe Tonkin – you might know her as Faye from The Secret Circle). It will be a backdoor pilot, which means a normal TVD episode (called “The Originals”) will serve as a pilot. This will all go down in April, so get ready for a very Klaus centered episode. Our team has mixed feelings about this spin-off to be honest. Don’t get us wrong, we would love to see Joseph Morgan on a weekly basis as the star of his own show (we did name him Best Actor of 2012 after all). But we are also very worried about our favorite ship Klaroline, because there is no word yet on Caroline (Candice Accola) joining this spin-off. We think Candice will be stuck on TVD for six seasons (original cast members always sign on for six seasons), so we are not getting our hopes up that she will be joining Joseph Morgan any time soon. But let’s not get ahead of things… first we will have to see what this pilot will bring and then it has to be picked up by The CW. They did backdoor pilots for Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl before, but those shows never made it to a second episode. We will know more in May!
