Modern Family 4×12: Party Crasher

He’s here! The baby’s finally here!

1. What just happened?!
Shoot, it’s Manny’s 14th birthday. TOTALLY forgot about that. (wink wink)
Jay and Gloria have set up a surprise party for their son. After all, with the baby coming he’s been feeling a little neglected lately and so he deserves to have his special day. While running the final birthday errands, padre and madre enjoy having a Bonnie & Clyde moment way too much. They haven’t had this much fun together in a while.

Cam’s a little bummed out, supposedly by something at work. On top of that Lily asks not him, but Mitchell to marry her (a weird kids fase I’ll tell ya), which is bad, considering Cam’s inability to let someone else outdo him. A huge fake wedding ceremony follows up. Also several small injuries to Lily. Is it really problems at work that cause all this?

Haley’s met a new guy. Enter creepy boyfriend – ponytail – Kenny. He’s probably twice Haley’s age and not very modest as it comes to ambiguous lines. Ew.
Phil shares several high fives with his new-to-be son-in-law (who wouldn’t for free pairs of jeans??) until he realizes that that’s what Kenny is. His new-to-be son-in-law. In Holland we have a saying that can be translated as “If looks could kill”, which seemed pretty appropriate in this occasion. Be careful with those hedge shears Phil. Claire recognizes her young self in Haley and soothes Phil to wait for Haley to stop her let’s-bug-daddy-plan.

At the end of the day it’s party time. Right before Manny comes home, Gloria comes up with this original never-heard-of plan to turn down the lights and jump from behind the couch yelling ‘surprise!’ as he enters. So the door opens, and SURPRISE we totally just all watched you having your first kiss… How embarrassing. Manny storms of to his room and it takes a while to get him back downstairs. Some suppressed contractions as well. Do not blow out those candles just yet cause supposedly, a baby sibling will see the light of day. Gloria, being the super sweet mom she is, tries to hold in who’s in her belly, just to make sure Manny does not need to share his birthday too. Sharing a mom is hard enough, right? Am I the only one having doubts on her managing to do this?

2. What was the most memorable quote or dialog this episode?
– Phil: These jeans just slipped on me so perfectly, my name must be “Pantserella.”
– Cam: “Oh cute cute cute cute cute cute cuuuuute.”
– Cam: “Please do not turn me marrying my daughter into something ugly.”
– Cam: “Please do not blame me. We always knew there was a strong possibility she would be a terrible driver.”
– Kenny: “Hey I don’t think we’ve met, I’m Kenny.” Alex: “And I’m disgusted.”
– Manny: “Kids make fun of you if you get a haircut. I just gave them a full blown sex scandal.”

3. Cuteness vs. Useless
+ What a lovely episode this was. Lots of funniness, combined with embracing major (family) moments in life. Yup, that’s what we want from Modern Family.

4. Rate it! (on a scale from 0 to 10)
Also: The long-waited baby’s here! No more pregnant Gloria! That definitely deserves an 8,5.
