The Vampire Diaries 4×11: Catch Me If You Can
The race for the Cure is on. Jeremy and Damon are dealing with the vampires Klaus created to grow the hunters mark. In the meantime Stefan and Rebekah try to steal the headstone from professor Shady Shane’s office. But they run in to a compelled guy who tries to take the stone. When they question the guy about who sent him, he kills himself. Shane is currently investigated by Liz, because of his connection to the death of April Young’s father. Bonnie who feels played, demands answers but totally loses control. Shane makes a deal with her father to keep her in check, because she is kind of a ticking time bomb these days. Kol is freaking out about raising Silas, so he tries to take out every team who wants to find the cure. He even compels Damon to kill Jeremy and not even Elena can prevent that from happening. Damon is no Stefan, girl. But luckily your ex shows up to snap his brother’s neck. In the end Stefan locks Damon up, forbids Elena from seeing him and hooks up with Rebekah, who was almost killed by Kol if Klaus hadn’t shown up. It’s just another week of backstabbing siblings on The Vampire Diaries…
Cuteness vs. Useless
+ Loved that Stefan finally told Elena the truth. Go Stefan! He’s right, he was always in love with her and this is just him out of love with Elena. I’m sorry Team Stelena, but on the bright side: Elena didn’t looked so happy about Stefan being out of love with her. The girl likes to be worshipped apparently. (Rebekah’s dig about that was so funny actually.)
+ Stefan and Rebekah make a nice team. I like a more loosen up version of Stefan, it’s way better than a moping Stefan. Plus their hook up at the end of the episode was hot.
+ Nice twist to put a mysterious guy in the race. My bet is Elijah sent him, only because Kol mentioned him during the episode and Elijah will have to return soon to join Klaus in the backdoor pilot, I mean New Orleans. (A little shout out to Daniel Gillies for signing on!)
+ Kol might be an ass for almost killing his sister and trying to prevent everyone from finding the cure, but I really like the way Nathaniel Buzolic portraits him. Permission to stick around a little longer, Nathaniel/Kol.
+/- Is it just me or do we have no clue anymore why everyone wants to find the cure? These days it looks more like a game and the only reason they are after the cure is to beat the other team(s) at finding it first. It makes me less invested in the story, because I never see the writers changing the vampires on a show called The Vampire Diaries to humans. Plus at this point only changing Elena back to her human form would be dull too.
+/- Is killing Kol the best or worst idea Elena ever had?! The jury is still out on that… I actually think Jeremy doesn’t have it in him to kill an Original vampire. The older the better the vampire, right? But growing the hunter’s mark by killing one vampire and his complete lineage sounds kind of smart in theory…
– Why does the Shady professor only has to do some wicked hand movement and talk about control to get Bonnie into normal mode again? It almost seems like she does expression because he hypnotized her to do it… creepy! Plus he is soooo using her guilt about her grams against her.
– Bonnie is super disconnected from her friends. It seems like forever ago that she had a nice sit down with her BFFs or even send a text to them. Can you give Bonnie a better storyline, dear writers? I don’t want her to turn into TVD’s version of Gossip Girl’s Vanessa.
– By the way, cell reception in a freaking tunnel?! The next time they are walking in a forest without it, I’m going to laugh really loud.
Because of the interesting dialog, but the super confusing story (a.k.a. the race for the cure). This week’s episode deserves a 7,5/8
This week’s favorite quote
Rebekah to Stefan at the professor’s office: “What happened to you? You were so much fun in the twenties.”
Stefan replies: “I was a psychotic killer with no emotions in the 1920s.”
Klaus to Kol: “On the contrary, I find nastiness to be essential whenever my siblings try to sabotage me.”
Rebekah: “I enjoy other cultures, Stefan. I know that might be hard for you to understand considering you dated a child who only thinks about herself.”
Rebekah explains to Elena what she did to Stefan: “Rescued him from his old, dull life, but it keeps calling.”
Klaus when Rebekah says Kol almost killed her: “Well, then, I think you need a lesson in how to properly dagger a sibling.”
Stefan respons after Elena wonders why he is with Rebekah who killed her in the first place: “And this will be the second time that Damon tried to kill Jeremy. So I guess nobody’s perfect, right?”
Stefan talking to Elena about him not being “supposed” himself: “Sure it is. You’ve just never seen me like this. You don’t know what I look like when I’m not in love with you.”
Klaus to Elena and Jeremy when they turn down his proposal: “Fine, but when Kol does come… and he will come… be sure to let me know, preferably before he burns your nice little home to the ground. And as for you, hunter, there’s no shortage of people to turn and loved ones to threaten, so sleep well. We’ll plan on finishing our work tomorrow.”
