The Vampire Diaries 4×15: Stand by Me
Are you ready for the rollercoaster ride called “Elena lost her last family member”? Well that was basically the whole storyline this week. I must say the writers and the cast did a great job on this episode, but Nina Dobrev stole the spotlight.
Elena went through the five stages of grieve in no time. She had hope Jeremy was human again because The Hunter’s mark had disappeared and he was wearing his ring. Alas it didn’t help. Doctor Fell said he suffered extreme blood loss. Caroline and Stefan already smelt Jeremy decomposing before Elena would release the body. When Matt showed up to see his buddy (and little brother) laying dead on his bed, the most heartbreaking moment of the episode occurred. It was actually the first time Jeremy’s death hit home. Great job by Zach Roerig – who is the longest surviving human of the show. Nina’s finest moment was when she scared the crap out of everyone with wanting to burn the house down. Her breakdown right after her summary of the many dead Gilberts made her look more human than she has ever been. Elena was always able to keep herself together and moved on with grace, but Jeremy’s death pushed her over the edge. It might be cruel to say, be it’s the most likeable Elena (or should I say relatable?) has been since this season. Seeing her feeling everything and switching of her humanity onscreen was amazing. She just went completely blank. Walking out of the burning house with the Salvatores right behind her, looked very powerful. They are her new family.
We also learned a few things about Silas. Nobody has ever seen his face, so he probably possesses someone’s body to walk around the earth. Rebekah decided to go after Katherine who apparently knew Hayley. We actually saw Shane lurking around Bonnie’s place – who is convinced she could bring back the supernatural dead – but we also saw Shane back on the island with Rebekah. My best guess Silas is with Bonnie, because he was able to heal her wounds with herbs and never showed his face to Damon. I now get why Kol always said Silas would create hell on earth. Because all those supernatural creatures would be extremely vengeful I guess.
I look forward to the new episode(s), mostly because of Elena. Seeing Elena without her humanity would be so interesting. I hope the writers and Nina Dobrev are able to prevent that Elena sans humanity becomes exactly like Katherine. Although Elena looks more like a spoiled brat in the promos. – 9
This week’s favorite quote
Matt: “My point is, this town, this crazy-ass world we live in, sometimes not being willing to accept that someone is gone is because maybe they’re not… At least not completely.”
Matt: “I would tell you that it’s ok to have hope… Because sometimes that’s all that keeps me going.”
Damon: “I’m not enough, not this time.”
