Modern Family 4×17: Best Men
Elizabeth Banks guest stars this episode as Cam and Mitchell’s gal pal Sal. She’s got big news: she is getting married and she wants Cam and Mitch to be the best men at her wedding. But of course Sal is more like a loose cannon when she thinks about settling down. She even makes out with the bartender. But in the end she walks down the aisle, realizing she just as in love with her hubby as Cam and Mitch are in love with each other. Aww. The funny bit was in the end when she had a little one on one time with Lily, who wasn’t allowed to come to the wedding. It was such a laugh out loud moment when Sal said “I don’t like you” and Lily responded with “I’ll get over it”.
Back at the Dunphy house Haley is bouncing back from her bitchiness phase and start connecting with Claire. Which she always predicted. The funny thing is that Alex is ready to jump into her “my family is so embarrassing” phase. Claire and Haley are not amused when she ditches them to hang out with her band the Electric Light Dorkestra. In the meantime Phil helps Luke with his first date. Turns out his date also brought her mom, who typed the whole chat conversation between them. She even hits on Phil. He tries to let her off easy, but she’s not amused. Important rule: never bring your parents to your first date, they will ruin it otherwise.
Jay and Gloria have to deal with Manny’s love for female curves. Jay even tells Gloria to wear less revealing shirts. Not a smart idea, Jay. Turns out Manny is in love with the nanny. He even made her a romantic dinner, which was really thoughtful in her eyes, but she declined his offer anyway (because it was of course super inappropriate). Another great episode! – 8,5
This week’s favorite quote
Claire: “Raising a kid is like sending a rocket ship to the moon. You spend the early years in constant contact, and then one day, around the teenage years, they go around the dark side and they’re gone. All you can do is wait for that faint signal that says they’re coming back. I think Haley is sending me that signal.”
Phil (when Claire wonders if Haley would go out to dinner with her): “If you want, I can pass her a note in study hall.”
Sal: “Marriage terrifies me. Take Mitch and Cam. I used to think their life looked so boring. I could never do it. Pay bills? Wash dishes? Wake up to the same face every day? I felt sorry for them. But they’re not bored. It turns out when you’re with the right person, you can change shelf paper at 10:00 at night in your pajamas and not wanna be anywhere else. That’s how much they love each other. And when I just saw your face, I remembered that’s how much I love you.”
